Seedschool Homeschool Program at Twelve Hills Nature Center
We have interest in developing a supplemental homeschool program for children 6 to 9 years old.
If you have been following the adventures of Seed Preschool, you know that we are offering children a rare opportunity for nature immersion through child-led, project based learning. Our older Seedschool children will take these ideas further and develop more complex projects. We envision lots of journaling and documentation; perhaps tracking a plant or animal species found in the nature center over the course of the seasons. Annual mowing of the prairie (which happens in early September) offers the opportunity to learn why disturbance is essential for growth and renewal. Migrating Monarch butterflies swarm the native plants in the nature center garden on their way to Mexico, offering lessons on resilience and determination. Plants and animals grow and change, come and go.
We will call this program Seedschool (not preschool) so that older children feel more comfortable with the name. If you are interested, let us know. We will determine days and times based on family need and classroom availability as we develop the program.
We hope you will consider us as a part of your child’s homeschool learning!
